By adding a few decorative touches and some basic structural changes you can give your kitchen an entirely new look without needing to resort to a serious remodel. Any one of these upgrades, or a combination of them, will really aid in transforming your kitchen into a welcoming space for family and friends.
Today, the kitchen is the hub of the home. The advantage of having an open plan kitchen is it creates is a family friendly environment. With technology as it is, the kids can be entertaining themselves on an iPad and you can be doing something completely different. The family is no longer restricted to one room and one TV for entertainment.
Pay particular attention to a kitchen's three major components -- cabinets, countertops and appliances. Chances are, you'll notice that in the most satisfying and visually compelling kitchens, there is at least some variety within each of those categories. In any given kitchen, a single style of cabinet can have different finishes. The countertops on one side of a room could be different from those on the opposite side. The dishwasher and range might be stainless steel, but the refrigerator can be camouflaged by a cabinet-matching panel. A cooktop's backsplash might be ceramic tile, but the ones flanking the sink could be painted beadboard.
Once you’ve had your plans drawn up and permissions granted, you’ll need to find tradespeople you trust to carry out any structural work and install your kitchen. This could include a builder, joiner, plumber, electrician and decorator.
