Colour is very important when it comes to the perception of space. As a rule, bright colours can open up a space while dark colours make them seem smaller. Which you prefer is, of course, totally down to personal taste, but also the room in which the colour lives. It can often be nice to have a darker colour in a bedroom or living room as a way of creating a cosy, intimate atmosphere. But when it comes to a kitchen, it is often best to go bright, particularly when you are trying to make the space appear bigger.
By adding a few decorative touches and some basic structural changes you can give your kitchen an entirely new look without needing to resort to a serious remodel. Any one of these upgrades, or a combination of them, will really aid in transforming your kitchen into a welcoming space for family and friends.
A good tip about the size and layout of an open plan kitchen is to go to a kitchen designer early on in your planning stages. Visit a range of kitchen suppliers and talk to their designers. Your architect will give you a strategic design and the kitchen designer should add another layer to the plan, providing specific product lead information like the types of drawers, fixtures and finishes you can have.
For a more modern kitchen, combine white with stainless steel appliances and a glass backsplash, adding small pops of color around the room.
