A kitchen's inflexible nature contributes to the problem. It's not a space in which you can just rearrange the furniture at whim. Lined with built-in and bolted-to-the-wall boxes, fixed-in-place surfaces and large, immovable machinery, a kitchen can look static and lifeless in almost no time at all.
Also consider having clearly defined circulation routes. Clear pedestrian routes allow people to easily flow through the space without having to go round key objects like the dining table. One simple way to achieve this is to see all the way through the open plan kitchen and into the garden — this helps to pull people through the space.
Designing a kitchen based around certain dietary considerations can be a huge plus for a client. When it comes to Judaism these dietary laws, known as kashrut, define which foods are permitted in the home and how these foods must be stored and prepared. For example kashrut adherents keep meat and dairy separate so it is crucial that a kosher kitchen be equipped and organized well to accommodate this. Among the primary concerns are storage and appliances, since duplicates of everything from dishwashers to refrigerators might be needed.
White is a great choice for a kitchen you want to appear larger. It’s brightness and reflective nature also feeds into the importance of light, which will be discussed further later on. One dark wall can also be used to your advantage as a means of giving a room that extra sense of depth. Neutral colours are the often the best choice as they are not heavy on the eye, giving a smooth finish. Various shades of one colour can also be used well, keeping everything in the one palette gives the sense flow and elongation, for example, shades or tones of grey.
