If you definitely want to paint your cabinets a color, consider using a lighter color on top and the deeper color on bottom, or vice versa. Or, if you have an island, just paint the bottom of that a different color and keep the other cabinets neutral. This will help the kitchen from feeling overpowered by one hue.
If you have a table in your kitchen, consider painting the chairs a bright contrasting color. A colorful standing mixer, vibrant dishtowels, a cheerful window treatment, a quirky light fixture or colorful hardware can also help brighten the space.
This stark look works well in contemporary spaces. As mentioned, the severity of a true white can fight a traditional decor, but in a modern space it feels appropriately crisp. It’s especially effective in small spaces, such as compact condo kitchens, paired with minimalist white cabinets to give the illusion of a bigger space.
Blue works well when paired with neutrals like white or gray. Many homeowners who chose blue will use it sparingly on some surfaces (for example the walls), to make it a perfect accent against neutrals like white cabinets, backsplash, and countertops.
